Student Led Conferences - Next Week!

Hello Families,

Student Led Conferences are approaching next week and your children are looking forward to showing you their accomplishments so far this school year!

As a reminder, your child needs to be present during your conference time. They will be leading the discussion and explaining each piece of work selected from each homeroom subject.

There will be a short amount of time for you to discuss with the teacher any questions or concerns you might have after viewing your child’s Progress Report. We encourage you to have these questions ready, as there will be up to three other students and families in the room at the same time. We want to ensure we have time to get around to everyone before the conference time slot is complete.

Thank you for your continued support in your child’s learning and we look forward to meeting with you next week!

Sincerely,

The Grade 1 Team

The Class Footprint - November 9

Sharing Circle Series (SCS)

Grade 1 : Sharing Circles Series (SCS)
This year the Grade 1s will be hosting A STORY TELLING Sharing Circle Series (SCS), where we welcome community members, parents, and family members (i.e., grandparents, aunts, uncles) to share a story.

All cultures pass on stories from generation to generation. This is open to any and all who feel comfortable sharing, contributing and teaching about his/her own culture.

We are hoping to make real-life connections through our social studies and literacy programs, where our students can learn, see, hear and feel first hand that learning takes place all around us, everyday, everywhere! We want to foster the idea that we all have a voice in our community (regardless of what language we speak) in a variety of spaces.

Our SCS will take place monthly in the library. Some possible themes include: Favourite Bedtime Stories, Fables and Fairy Tales, Your Own Culture, Songs and Rhymes and Inspirational Art, Holidays, Favourite childhood story... just to name a few.

We welcome a variety of languages, especially those spoken at home. It is a great learning opportunity for all of our students to experience.

Ways of sharing can look like: oral storytelling, reading a book, bringing in items that illustrate a story, and sharing pieces of a story.

We are looking forward to this new learning! If you have any questions, please call or email your child’s teacher.

Sincerely,
The Grade 1 Team

PLAYDOUGH Recipe!

Our students have asked that I send out a PLAYDOUGH recipe!

It's super simple, and a lot of fun to make with your child. It's a great way to integrate math, and procedural writing as well.

Enjoy!

HOW TO MAKE PLAYDOUGH

Playdough ingredients:
  • 2 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup salt
  • 4 teaspoons cream of tarter
  • 2 cups lukewarm water
  • 2 Tablespoons of vegetable oil (coconut oil works too)
  • Food coloring, optional / A pinch of Cinnamon for a lovely smell
  • Quart sized bags
Stir together the flour, salt and cream of tarter in a large pot. Next add the water and oil. If you’re only making one color, add in the the color now as well. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly. Continue stirring until the dough has thickened and begins to form into a ball. Remove from heat and then place inside a gallon sized bag or onto wax paper. Allow to cool slightly and then knead until smooth. If you’re adding colors after, divide the dough into balls (for how many colors you want) and then add the dough into the quart sized bags. Start with about 5 drops of color and add more to brighten it. Knead the dough, while inside the bag so it doesn’t stain your hands. Once it’s all mixed together you’re ready to PLAY.

Rick Hansen Families,

It is important for families to register for Edsby as RHPS will be using this platform to schedule our Parent/Teacher Interviews and Student-Led Conferences happening in November.  Parents/guardians will need to accept the invitation sent to them from Edsby and create an account in Edsby in order to, in future, schedule a time for the student led conferences/parent teacher interviews.

Invitations to join Edsby were sent out October 19, 2018 for families to register for Edsby.  Please check your junk mail folder if you are unable to find this invitation.

Please contact the school office if you require another invitation to join

Thank you!
